Sequoia and Kings Canyon Private Day Tour from LA

About this experience

Sequoia and Kings Canyon are two national parks run by the National Park Service as one unit. This tour covers the big-tree side of both. In Kings Canyon National Park it stops at the General Grant Tree in Grant Grove, which the NPS calls the world's second-largest tree and which became the Nation's Christmas Tree in 1926. In Sequoia it takes you to the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree on Earth by volume at 274.9 ft (83.8 m) tall. The listing adds the Giant Forest Museum, the Tunnel Log, the Parker Group sequoias and sunset from the top of Moro Rock.

What it does not do is drive down into Cedar Grove, the deep valley that gave Kings Canyon its name. The listing's stops are Grant Grove and Sequoia's Giant Forest. That is a sensible plan for one day, since the NPS gives about 4 hours from the Los Angeles area to the Ash Mountain entrance, and Cedar Grove would add about an hour each way from Grant Grove. Highway 180 beyond Grant Grove also closes for winter; for 2026 the NPS expects it to close on 13 November.

It is fully private: one price covers your group of up to five, with private transport, bottled water and all fees and taxes, per the listing. The itinerary is customizable, so you can trade a stop for more time with the trees. The listing also offers pickups in San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego and Bakersfield. Guests call it a long day that is well worth it. For more on what each park holds, read Sequoia vs Kings Canyon.

Do it! This is an absolutely phenomenal experience; the guide, the mountains, the biggest trees on the planet. Our guide Ando was exceptionally patient, kind, and accommodating for our group with members ranging from age 8 - 81. We will remember this the rest of our lives.

Tips before you book

  • Visiting from outside the US? The National Park Service says each non-US resident aged 16+ pays a US$100 nonresident fee on top of the entrance fee unless entering with an annual or America the Beautiful pass, and that this includes people on commercial tours. The listing says all fees and taxes are included; ask the operator to confirm this one for your group. Details in our 2026 fees post.
  • Wear the comfortable hiking shoes the listing asks for. The tree trails are short, and the day ends with a walk on Moro Rock.
  • Going in winter? The NPS says the groves usually have deep snow from December to May, and tire chains may be required whenever it snows. Ask your guide how they plan the route on snowy dates.
  • Leave the bear spray at home: it is illegal to possess in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The bears and safety guide explains why.
  • Cell service is limited to a few areas such as the Kings Canyon Visitor Center, per the NPS, so download maps and tickets before you leave.
